I Grew up close to the Neapolitan Mastiff since the age of five.
My father and friend Giuseppe was the person who exposed me to this breed by sharing with me his passion and giving me the basic tools to understand this wonderful dog.
I owe him my curiosity for the understanding of the bloodlines and the different types.
To his memory we dedicate this page. Pierluigi, Graziano and the Scalia's family |

“Peppino” Scalia became interested in the Neapolitan Mastiff breed,
in the early '70s when the Italian scene was dominated by a few breeders (such as "di Montespada" e "di villa Bilancione") and many mastinari.
The fathers of the breed were still "Masaniello d'a Muntagna" and "Guaglione" of Mr.DeRiggi. In the showing rings the champion Falco della Grotta Azzurra was the ultimate dog and the dream of all fanciers. The great Mario Querci was about to come up with his most renoun subjects and launching a new type appreciated worldwide for its elegance. |
Peppino was attracted from this breed for its unique features and its prehistoric past.
He collaborated with many mastinari and owned very good quality dogs for many years, the Italian Ch. Dafne is an example, given upon Peppino's will to Salvatore Marletta (owner of Viscalori kennel) after his sudden death in 1990. Dafne was the last dog he owned. |

He also wrote several articles on the origin of this dog to promote the breed in the 70’ (as the one depicted in here).
Many great mastinari in Italy shared his friendship and still remember him after he left us in 1990 ‘cause of an uncurable disease. In same year, also the unforgettable Mario Querci died. |
We are thankful to the many friends who shared their thoughts and passion with him.
