Committed to the Neapolitan Mastiff since 1973.

Welcome to our website and
thank you for visiting.

At “Del Feudo Nisseno” we have owned, bred and shown top Neapolitan Mastiffs since 1973.
“Del Feudo Nisseno” kennel name stands for “(kennel) of the Feud of Caltanissetta”,
the city where the Scalia family came from, which is located at the geographical center of the Sicilian isle.
Our kennel is based in the Los Angeles County, in Southern California since 1998, where Pierluigi Scalia works and resides along with his beloved Neapolitan Mastiffs.
Our dogs are all derived from stocks and blood lines personally imported or extensively screened for their Italian origins and ancestry genetic traits before being introduced in our selection.
Pierluigi is also an AKC judge for the Neapolitan mastiff breed and active member of several National, Regional and International Breed organizations. His main interests are the Health (with specific focus to genetics, endocrine issues and cancer) and the Breed Standard interpretation.
Several “Del Feudo Nisseno” bred dogs since early 2000 have made history both inside and outside the AKC show rings and continue to provide solid foundation stocks for many fanciers selection both in the US and in foreign countries. Among our results are seven finished US champions, one Russian Champion (Joshua DFN), two BOBs at Eukanuba and Wenstminster invitational dogs shows (Ch Aragorn DFN and Ch Traiano DFN), the first Bred-By-Exhibitor Champion in the US breed history (Ch Tarquinia DFN) and several Reproductors of merit (Flavia and Ferdinando DFN).
Our approach to selection is based upon strict evaluation of the prospect mating partners and inclusion of genetic parameters to minimize unwanted traits in our Neapolitan mastiffs offspring. This allows us to limit our number of litters per year and take the time to raise, socialize and monitor our products up to the time we find the best possible homes for each and every one of our dogs.
A Neapolitan Mastiff is definitely not just a dog for inexperienced fanciers. To everybody who is interested in this breed we suggest to read as much as possible and talk to other experienced owners before contacting any breeder. If one still decides to own one of this majestic dogs he/she should first ask him/herself (a) if aware of the most common breed problems, (b) if having the proper family and house setting and (c) if ready to spend as much money as it takes to maintain this costly type of dog.
After having positively fulfilled  all the above, if anyone still chooses this breed as his/her own companion animal and unbeatable guardian of the family and estates then, please draw us a few lines to introduce yourself by telling us a bit more about how we can help to find the right match for you and/or your family. Warmest regards,

Pierluigi Scalia MD, PhD

On January 20th Itaca DFN had 7 puppies (three males and four females) from the breeding with Italian Import Telemaco (aka "toto") Dello Stradone Vesuviano. We thank Remo Coppola and George Small for the opportunity to start this collaborative effort on the unique selective work performed on both parents. We look forward in monitoring the products of this litter and place them in the most suitable homes.
